Welcome to Learney House, a baronial mansion built in 1747 and fully refurbished in 2025.

Sleeps up to 14 in the heart of Royal Deeside. Catering available upon request.

The House

Learney House has 8 bedrooms, a dining room, drawing room, library, morning room, kitchen, TV room, and extensive Victorian gardens.

So there’s everything you need to host a truly unforgettable week for loved ones, friends or colleagues.

The Estate & Village

We invite you to make yourself at home in the centre of the 5,000 acre, family-run Learney Estate. Enjoy breathtaking walks across the varied landscape, with tree-lined avenues to the rugged heather on the Hill of Fare.

The village of Torphins sits at the edge of the estate, where guests can make use of the tennis courts and golf course. To follow, a meal and drink at the Learney Arms, or coffee and cake at Platform 22, is highly recommended.

The Valley

There’s a reason the Royal Family have spent their summer months on the banks of the River Dee since the 1840s; Royal Deeside is the jewel in the crown of the Scottish outdoors.

With easy access to the jaw dropping Cairngorms National Park, Royal Deeside offers a multitude of activities for all visitors including hiking, fly fishing, stalking, shooting, tours of clan castles & whisky distilleries, mountain biking, skiing (Dec-Feb) and much more.

There are a number of fantastic restaurants, cafes, and pubs throughout the valley, including The King’s own Rothesay Rooms in Ballater and The Fife Arms in Braemar.

Royal Deeside has a clearer, drier and often warmer climate than most of Scotland. This means the air is almost always midge free - so you can enjoy a dram at dusk in peace.
